VP was asked to create style frames for DNA Nation, a show which explores the ancestry of high-profile individuals by tracing their DNA’s genetic route maps. Initially VP considered clean vector style graphics and even 3D options but found these to be too clinical and soulless. The aim was to take viewers on an emotional journey, and this needed to be complemented with human graphics.
VP achieved this by using the old display techniques of the overhead projector, which then seamlessly transition into narrative animation. The layering of the slides represents the many layers that must be uncovered to discover the truth of somebody’s origin. The combination of hand-drawn design and sleek graphics culminated in an elegant and graceful design package.
